A safari experience is like no other—an opportunity to immerse yourself in the heart of the wild, where every moment feels like a fresh discovery. As a guest on safari, every day is packed with excitement, awe, and a little relaxation, all while being surrounded by the stunning beauty of nature. Here’s a glimpse into my typical day as a guest on safari, where adventure awaits from dawn till dusk.

Early Wake-Up Call

The day starts before the sun rises. you wake up early with a gentle knock on the door of your tent from your guide, this signals that it’s time to wake up. slowly you hear the soft sounds of the bush coming alive. A quick cup of hot tea or coffee is served,  giving you the energy you need to begin your adventure. You then step into the open-air safari vehicle. The stillness of the early morning is a moment of peace before the excitement of the game drive begins. Your guide shares a few words of what we might see, and soon, we're off into the bush as the first light of dawn starts to illuminate the landscape

The morning game drive is a thrilling 3-hour adventure that begins with the rising sun. The early morning light paints the sky. Your guide skilfully manoeuvres the vehicle through the thick bush, and the hunt for wildlife begins, You might spot the smaller creatures first—playful monkeys, colourful birds, and some Impala in the early Morning light perfect for that golden hour photo. The game drive continues with sightings of animals grazing lazily, and the highlight of the morning a Black-backed jackal came and gave your coffee stop a quick inspection, The thrill of witnessing these creatures in their natural habitat is indescribable.

Breakfast and Relaxation

By the time we return to camp, it’s time for a hearty breakfast. Fresh fruits, eggs, bacon, and pastries fill the table, along with an assortment of juices and coffee. You will eat while soaking in the beautiful view of the surrounding landscape, After breakfast, there is some time to relax. The midday heat has arrived, and the perfect solution is to retreat to the shade of a large tree, take a dip in the pool, or even enjoy a quiet nap in my comfortable tent. The peaceful ambiance of the camp, paired with the soft sounds of nature, creates an ideal environment to unwind and recharge for the evening adventure.

Lunch is then served in the early afternoon—light, fresh, and satisfying. A delicious salad or grilled meat paired with a refreshing drink is the perfect meal to keep you energized. The food is a highlight of the safari experience. After lunch, you will have the opportunity to rest for a while. Whether it’s lounging on a comfy chair, reading a book, or simply soaking in the serenity, the quiet hours of the afternoon are a welcome break before the action of the evening.

Some guests may even choose to embark on a guided walk with a ranger, learning about the smaller details of the ecosystem, like the tracks left by animals or the medicinal properties of certain plants.

Evening Game Drive

As the sun begins to set, the evening game drive begins. The air is cooler now, and the animals are more active, preparing for the night ahead. The evening light creates a completely different atmosphere—everything is bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun, and the landscape feels magical. On this drive, you may spot a herd of Elephants having a swim, or some giraffe strolling by.

The highlight of the evening comes when you witness a stunning sunset while stopped for a refreshing gin and tonic or that ice cold beer, As it gets darker, the guide uses a spotlight to search for nocturnal animals like hyenas or leopards, adding an element of mystery to the experience.

Dinner and Reflection

The evening ends with a delicious dinner back at camp. Dining outdoors under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the bush, is an experience you will never forget. The meal is often a traditional affair, with grilled meats, fresh vegetables, and hearty stews. After dinner, we gather around the campfire to share stories and reflect on the day’s adventures.

As you sit around the fire, the soft crackle of the flames and the distant calls of animals create a calming atmosphere. You then think about all that you have seen today the awe-inspiring beauty of the animals, the tranquility of the landscape, and the connection to the natural world. There’s no rush to end the day. The night is a reminder that the adventure continues, and you can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds.
